A tale of the Sarumanakado

Japanese: 猿曳門出諷 - さるまわしかどでのひとふし

Kabuki kyogen. Sewamono (domestic drama). Written by Tokuzō Chikamatsu. 2 acts. First performed in July 1798 (Kansei 10) at the Nakayama Yozaburō-za (Kado no Shibai) in Osaka. This work belongs to the Oshun Denbeimono genre, and is a rewrite of the puppet play Konkoro Kawara Tatsubiki, which was created around the beginning of the Tenmei era (1781-89). It was often performed up until the Meiji era, but since then Konkoro Kawara Tatsubiki has become more common. Izutsuya Denbei is searching for a scroll of a hawk for someone he is indebted to, but the scroll is in the hands of Yokobuchi Kanzaemon, a samurai from Kameyama, who is in unrequited love with Oshun, a prostitute who is Denbei's lover.

歌舞伎狂言。世話物。近松徳三作。2幕。1798年(寛政10)7月大坂中山与三郎座(角の芝居)初演。お俊伝兵衛物の系統に属する作品で，天明(1781‐89)初年ごろ成立の人形浄瑠璃《近頃河原達引》の書換えである。明治期まではよく上演されたが，その後は《近頃河原達引》の上演が多い。井筒屋伝兵衛は恩義ある人のために鷹の一軸を探求しているが，その一軸は亀山の武士横淵官左衛門の手にあり，しかも，官左衛門は伝兵衛の恋人の遊女お俊に横恋慕している。
