Kim Jong-hee

A scholar of Confucianism in the late Yi Dynasty of Korea. A master of calligraphy and epigraphy. A native of Gyeongju, Gyeongsang Province. His pen name was Wonchun. His pen names were Ruandang and Chusa. Born into a distinguished family, he honed his knowledge under the guidance of Park Jae-ga (1750-1815?), the foremost scholar of Confucianism of his time. At the age of 25, he visited Beijing and became acquainted with Hongru Ou Banggang and Ruan Yuan, who astonished him by saying that his writings on classical classics were the best in the East. After returning to Korea, he continued to maintain close ties with them and was influenced by them in the fields of epigraphy, painting, and classical classics. He achieved many things, including the discovery of the Monument to King Jinheung's Tour (Geum and Stone Carvings), calligraphy in the Chusa style, and the theory of seeking truth in facts.

朝鮮、李朝(りちょう)後期の実学者。書芸、金石学の巨匠。慶尚道慶州の人。字(あざな)は元春。号は阮堂(がんどう)、秋史。名門に生まれ、当代随一の実学者朴斉家(ぼくさいか)（1750―1815？）の指導を受けて学問を磨いた。25歳のとき北京(ペキン)を訪れ、鴻儒(こうじゅ)翁方綱(おうほうこう)、阮元(げんげん)らと交わり、「経学文章は海東第一」と瞠目(どうもく)させた。帰国後も親交を受け、金石学、書画、経学の各分野でその影響を受けつつ、真興王巡狩碑(しんこうおうじゅんしゅひ)の発見（『金石過眼録』）、秋史体の書法、実事求是(きゅうぜ)説など多くの業績を残した。
