C9H13NO3 ( mw183.21) . Also known as adrenaline. It is synthesized in the adrenal medulla and adrenergic neurons and acts both as a hormone and a neurotransmitter. It was the first hormone to be crystallized and discovered in 1900 by Takamine Jokichi and Uenaka Keizo. Given the circumstances of its discovery, the correct name is "adrenaline," but the US and Japanese Pharmacopoeias use "epinephrine."
