A city in southern Osaka Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1991. It faces Osaka Bay and occupies the northwest slope of the Izumi Mountains, with 70% of the city area being mountainous. In the early modern period, cotton farming was the basis, and the spinning and weaving industry developed with Ozaki, the main settlement, as its center. Agriculture involves rice, onions, and other vegetables, as well as mandarin oranges, but since the 1960s, it has been developed into a residential area and has become a commuter town for Osaka City and Wakayama City. It is served by the Hanwa Line, the Nankai Electric Railway Main Line, and the Hanwa Expressway. Yamanakadani Onsen is located in the southeast. 36.17 km2 . Population: 56,646 (2010). 大阪府南部の市。1991年市制。大阪湾に臨み和泉山脈の北西斜面を占め,市域の70%が山地。近世の綿作を基盤とし主集落の尾崎を中心として紡織工業が発達した。農業は米作,タマネギなど野菜・ミカン栽培を行うが,昭和40年代以降宅地化が進み大阪市,和歌山市のベッドタウンとなっている。阪和線,南海電鉄本線,阪和自動車道が通じる。南東部に山中渓(やまなかだに)温泉がある。36.17km2。5万6646人(2010)。
