《Quick River》

...The second period was from the An Lushan Rebellion to the winter when he settled in Sichuan at the age of 48. He sang of his own melancholy at the mercy of a society shaken by war, and during his imprisonment in Chang'an, he wrote works such as "Springtime" and "Lamenting at the Head of the River" that express his deep sadness for society and people who had lost their basis. "Qujiang" was written during the Zuo Shiyi period, when he personally felt the gap between political ideals and reality. After he was demoted, he wrote social poems such as "The Official of Xin'an", "The Official of Tong Pass", "The Official of Shihe" (all in the "Three Officials"), "Newlywed Farewell", "Farewell to the Chui Lao", and "Farewell to the Homeless" (all in the "Three Parties"). The third period was during his time in Chengdu, when a settled life gave him mental space, and he sang of nature and human kindness without reservation ("There is a Guest", "A Guest Arrives", "Spring Night Happy Rain", etc.). ...
