In the broad sense, it refers to carbides, but is commonly known as calcium carbide (CaC2 ) . Also known as calcium carbide. Specific gravity 2.22, melting point 2300℃. Pure form is a colorless crystal. Usually it is gray-black due to impurities. It reacts with water to produce acetylene. When reacted with nitrogen at high temperatures, it becomes calcium cyanamide. It is used in the organic chemical industry as a raw material for acetylene, and is also important as a raw material for lime nitrogen. It is made by heating calcium oxide (quicklime) and carbon in an electric furnace to about 2000℃. → Related topics Coal chemistry | Coal chemical industry | Lime nitrogen | Lime nitrogen industry | Electrochemical industry Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
