A playwright and poet who represents the Golden Age of Spanish literature. A prolific writer who was called a "monster of nature," he is said to have written about 2,000 plays, but only about 400 remain today. Known as the perfector of the national drama, the Commedia, the key point of his playwriting method was that he ignored the rules of classical drama, such as the "rule of three unities," and adapted his plays to the tastes of the audience. His works can be broadly divided into "cloak, sword, and play" (love plays of manners and customs) and those that take inspiration from history and folk poetry, with many of his masterpieces belonging to the latter category, including Fuenteovejuna, The Knight of Olmedo, and The King is the Unique Justiciar. → Related articles Calderón de la Barca | Modern theatre | Tirso de Molina Vega→Related topics: Orihime | Altair (star) | Lyra (Lyra) | Weaver Girl | North Star Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
