…Of the 40 known ancient correspondences, the oldest is the Meigō Orai, written by Fujiwara Akihira, who served as a doctor of literature and university head in the 11th century. This collection of over 200 letters, arranged by month from New Year to December, was also called the Unshū Orai or Unshū Shōsoku, and was widely used as a collection of example letters. Another correspondence thought to have been written around the same time is the Kosanjihon Koorai, which was recently introduced. …

…The use of official documents such as letters and envoys, or Chinese letters, began to spread gradually from the middle to the end of the Heian period, and at the same time, documents such as imperial edicts, imperial decrees, and imperial teachings came into existence. In response to this trend, the Unshu News was compiled. This is also called the Meigō Correspondence, and is a collection of examples of correspondence written by Izumo no Kami Fujiwara no Akihira, the first of many correspondences that were published later. …

…Written by Fujiwara Akihira, a scholar of Chinese literature in the Heian period. Because Akihira was the governor of Izumo, it is also called “Messages from Unshu” and “Travels in Unshu.” Starting from January, each volume lists letters of submission and their replies in order of month, and contains much of the content about the daily life of the people of the capital at the time, regular and special ceremonies, annual events, sightseeing trips, banquets, etc.…

…公式様（くしきよう）文書の状･啓あるいは中国の尺牘（せきとく）に起源を有する書札は，平安時代中･末期から漸次広く行われるようになり，それとともに綸旨（りんじ），院宣，御教書（みぎようしよ）といった書札様文書も成立をみる。このような動きに応じて《雲州消息》が編まれる。これは《明衡（めいごう）往来》ともいわれ，出雲守藤原明衡の手になる往復書簡の例文集で，以後数多くみられる往来物の最初に位するものである。…
