Also known as air classification, this is a method of separating particles using air currents. Because solid particles have different settling speeds in the air depending on their size, it is possible to separate a diverse group of particles into groups based on particle size in the air current. There are various types of devices, including vertical upward flow types that use gravity, horizontal flow types, straight flow types that use inertia, curved flow types, and cyclone types.
