One of the aspects of Japanese vocal music. The term is most commonly used in utai (Noh). It is also written as mawashi. It refers to a syllable of a verse sung with a pitch value of two or three dots, such as naa or nii, with a drop in pitch at the a or i part of the original character. Therefore, even if it also has a pitch value of two or more dots, hikiki and furiri are clearly distinguished from mawashi in that they do not involve a drop in pitch. The way mawashi is actually sung varies depending on which scale note it is on, whether it is a yowagin or tsuyogin, whether it is combined with symbols such as iri or haru, and so on. The result of the drop can be either lower than the starting note or a drop back to the starting note. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
