〘 noun 〙 A male who paid taxes under the ritsuryo system. This included Shotei (21-60 years old) , Chunan (17-20 years old) , Rocho (61-65 years old), and Zansho (the disabled or ill). However, in the first year of Tenpyo-Hoji ( 757 ), the ages of Shotei and Chunan were raised by one year each, and the following year the age of Rocho was lowered by one year, narrowing the scope of those who paid taxes. 〘名〙 令制で課役を負担する男子。正丁(しょうてい)（二一～六〇歳）、中男(ちゅうなん)（一七～二〇歳）および老丁（六一～六五歳）、残疾（不具者・病人）がこれにあたる。ただし、天平宝字元年（七五七）に正丁、中男の年齢を一年ずつ引き上げ、翌年老丁の年齢を一年引き下げて課役負担者の範囲を縮小した。よぼろ。→課口。〔令義解（718）〕
