A religious hymn of Muslims in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Originally sung at Sufi gatherings to confess their faith and achieve union with God, it is recited to a verse of Persian or Urdu ghazal. Musically, it is closely related to the khayal. Today, it is performed by a troupe consisting of a singer as the leader of the troupe, a harmonium, a dholak (drum), a dantar (a metal dactyl), small cymbals, a tambourine, and a taishokoto, and is also performed in secular settings.

インド，パキスタン，バングラデシュのムスリムの宗教賛歌。本来，スーフィーがその信仰告白と神との合一を達成する目的で行う集会で歌われた歌で，ペルシア，ウルドゥー語の詩型ガザルに節をつけて朗唱する。音楽的にはカヤールと密接な関係をもつ。現在では，一座の長としての歌い手，ハルモニウム，ドーラク（太鼓），ダンタル（金属製体鳴楽器），小型シンバル，タンバリン，大正琴から成る楽団によって演奏され，非宗教的な場でも行われる。
