The American Securities and Exchange Commission. It is also known as SEC. Its purpose is to protect investors and ensure the fairness of securities transactions. It was established in 1934 because the prevalence of fraudulent transactions in the American securities industry was considered to be one of the major causes of the Great Depression. With 2,000 employees, it is a quasi-judicial and quasi-legislative body that oversees securities transactions, but it is also an administrative body with the power of compulsory investigation and regulation. In Japan, the Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission was established in 1992, imitating the SEC, as a reflection of the securities scandals, but its authority and personnel are questionable. → Related items Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
