A city in central Kanagawa Prefecture, located at the southeastern foot of the Tanzawa Mountains. It was incorporated as a city in 1971. The city center developed as a post town and market town for pilgrims to Mt. Oyama. In the early Showa period, the Odakyu Electric Railway came through the city, and the area developed into residential areas, attracting many people commuting to Tokyo. 神奈川県中部，丹沢山地南東麓にある市。1971年市制。中心市街は大山(おおやま)詣りの宿場町，市場町として発達，昭和初期に小田急電鉄が通じ，宅地化が進み東京への通勤者が多い。ナシ，ブドウを生産。丹沢山地の登山口となっている。55.56km2。10万1039人（2010）。
