Vienna Basin (English spelling) Wiener Becken

A large triangular basin occupying the south of the Danube River at the eastern edge of Austria. It has an area of ​​approximately 1,600 square kilometers. The capital, Vienna, is located in the west, and it is one of the most important economic regions in the country. It was formed in the middle of the Tertiary Period when a 3,000 meter thick layer of sediment covered the subsidence area between the Alps and the Carpathians. Hot springs gush out along the fault line on the basin's western edge, and frequent earthquakes indicate that the basin is still undergoing changes. Two-thirds of the basin is cultivated land, and textile and clothing industries are located throughout the basin.

オーストリア東端、ドナウ川の南を占める大きな三角形の盆地。面積約1600平方キロメートル。西に首都ウィーンが位置し、この国でもっとも重要な経済地域の一つ。第三紀なかば、アルプスとカルパート山脈の間の沈降域に厚さ3000メートルに及ぶ堆積(たいせき)物が覆ってできた。盆地西縁の断層沿いに温泉が湧出(ゆうしゅつ)し、地震も頻発することは、現在なおその変動が継続していることを示す。耕地面積は3分の2を占め、繊維・衣料品工業が盆地内の各地に立地する。
