During the Edo period, cotton cultivation flourished in the Kinokawa River basin in Kihoku, encouraging the production of cotton textiles made from cotton. Among textiles, in what is now Wakayama City, the monba weave used for the military uniforms of the Kishu domain's samurai at the end of the Edo period was later improved and developed into Kishu flannel, and in the early Meiji period the production of military boots was also encouraged. …
