A historical text compiled by the ancient Japanese state. Second only to the Nihon Sandai Jitsuroku. The National History Office was established between 936 (Shohei 6) and 969 (Anwa 2), and it is known that Oe Asatsuna and others worked on compiling the historical text as its chief priest, but it is believed that the work ended with an unfinished draft. It appears in the 12th century Tsunen Nyudo Library Catalog, and there appears to have been a 40-volume version covering the reigns of Emperors Uda and Daigo, and a 50-volume version that also included articles on the reign of Emperor Suzaku. Currently, it has been lost, and only fragments remain. [Sasayama Haruo] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
