Akaishi Fissure Line

A fault that runs 35 km north to south along the western edge of the Akaishi Mountains. It is the fault that defines the western edge of the Akaishi Tectonic Belt and is also called the Akaishi Tectonic Line. It merges with the Median Tectonic Line in the north. This fault displaces the belt-like structure of the Southwest Japan Outer Belt for about 50 km in a left-lateral strike-slip manner. The Sanbagawa metamorphic rocks are distributed on the west side of the fault, and the strata of the Chichibu Belt from the Paleozoic to Mesozoic era and the Shimanto Group from the Mesozoic to Cenozoic era are distributed on the east side. This fault was thought to have been active as a left-lateral strike-slip fault, reverse fault, and normal fault from the Late Cretaceous Period of the Mesozoic era to the Miocene Period of the Neogene era, but it has been revealed that it underwent left-lateral strike-slip movement with a reverse fault component in the middle Miocene. It is also known to form a strike-slip duplex.

赤石山脈の西縁を南北に35キロメートルにわたって走る断層。赤石構造帯の西縁を限る断層で、赤石構造線ともよばれる。北方で中央構造線に合流する。この断層は西南日本外帯の帯状構造を約50キロメートル左横ずれに変位させている。断層の西側には三波川(さんばがわ)変成岩類が、東側には古生代～中生代の秩父(ちちぶ)帯の地層、中生代～新生代の四万十(しまんと)累層群が分布する。本断層は中生代白亜紀後期から新第三紀中新世にかけて左横ずれ断層→逆断層→正断層として活動したとされていたが、中新世中期に逆断層成分をもつ左横ずれ運動をおこしたことが明らかになった。また、横ずれデュープレックスを形成していることも知られている。
