Toy Manchester Terrier

Japanese: トイ･マンチェスター･テリア[種]（英語表記）toy Manchester terrier

A pet dog that originated in England. It is a miniature version of the Manchester Terrier. The standard type Manchester Terrier was developed based on the black and tan English terrier and was used by the common people of Manchester, an industrial area, for the entertainment of rat catching and rabbit chasing competitions. The black and tan English terrier has long been known as an expert rat catcher, and was improved and given the name of its place of origin, Manchester, at the end of the 19th century. The super-small toy-sized dog is one of the newest dog breeds developed in the 20th century.

原産地がイギリスの愛玩犬。マンチェスター･テリアを小型化し，愛玩犬化したイヌである。スタンダード型と呼ばれるマンチェスター･テリアはブラック･アンド･タン･イングリッシュ･テリアblack and tan English terrierを基礎に作出されたイヌで，工業地帯マンチェスターの庶民のネズミ捕殺やウサギ追い競技の娯楽に使われた。ブラック･アンド･タン･イングリッシュ･テリアは古くからネズミ捕殺の名手として知られ，改良されて原産地名マンチェスターが冠せられたのは19世紀末で，超小型のトイ･サイズのイヌは20世紀に至って作出された最も新しい犬種の一つである。
