…an abstract art movement that arose in the Netherlands in the early 20th century. Van Doesburg was inspired by Mondrian's paintings and ideas on form, and together with him he established Neoplasticism, a new artistic movement that was centered around the publication of a magazine (1917-28) to spread this idea. De Stijl (Dutch for "The Style") was the title of the magazine, and eventually became the name of the movement.
