Born on June 1, 1870. He dropped out of Meiji Law School (now Meiji University) and became an elementary school teacher in his hometown of Nagano Prefecture. He was baptized and in 1893 he joined the Higashihotaka Temperance Society, which was led by Soma Aizo and others. After being defeated in the movement against the establishment of geisha houses, he left his teaching profession and founded Kensei Gijuku in 1908. He educated Kiyosawa Kiyoshi and others through Christian personalist education. He passed away on July 21, 1938, at the age of 69.
