Kigenji Iguchi

Japanese: 井口喜源治 - いぐちきげんじ

1870-1938 An educator from the Meiji to early Showa periods.
Born on June 1, 1870. He dropped out of Meiji Law School (now Meiji University) and became an elementary school teacher in his hometown of Nagano Prefecture. He was baptized and in 1893 he joined the Higashihotaka Temperance Society, which was led by Soma Aizo and others. After being defeated in the movement against the establishment of geisha houses, he left his teaching profession and founded Kensei Gijuku in 1908. He educated Kiyosawa Kiyoshi and others through Christian personalist education. He passed away on July 21, 1938, at the age of 69.

明治3年6月1日生まれ。明治法律学校(現明大)を中退し,郷里の長野県で小学校教員となる。洗礼をうけ,明治26年相馬愛蔵らの東穂高禁酒会に入会。芸妓置屋設置反対運動に敗北して教職をさり,31年研成義塾を設立。キリスト教人格主義教育により清沢洌(きよし)らをそだてた。昭和13年7月21日死去。69歳。
