A town in Teshio County in northern Hokkaido. Most of the area is mountainous, and the area along the Sea of Japan is a dairy farming area with peat. The central settlement was developed as a herring fishing ground. It is said to be the northern limit of rice cultivation, and is vulnerable to cold damage.
