Ieshima [town] - Ieshima
An old town occupying the entire Ieshima Islands in Shikama County, Hyogo Prefecture. The main settlements are Miyaura on Ieshima and Boze on Boze Island. In the Middle Ages it was a naval base, and in the early modern period it was a fishing base. The town is active in fishing and stone mining, but agriculture is sluggish due to the lack of arable land. Most of the town is part of the Setonaikai National Park, and there are many suitable places for swimming and camping. There is a boat service from Himeji Port. In March 2006 it was incorporated into Himeji City along with Yumesaki Town in Shikama County, Kodera Town in Kanzaki County, and Yasutomi Town in Shisō County. 20.24 km2 . 8,342 people (2003).
