Born: April 22, 1861. Plague [Died] October 31, 1918. Budapest. Hungarian politician. Born into an aristocratic family (Count). Son of Tisza Kármán. In 1886 he became a member of the Hungarian parliament and leader of the Liberal Party. In 1903 he became Prime Minister. His heavy-handed politics made him unpopular, and he resigned the following year. After the Liberal Party was dissolved, he formed the National Labor Party. In 1913 he was reappointed Prime Minister. After the assassination of the Austrian Archduke (1914), he initially opposed the declaration of war against Serbia at the Imperial Conference, but eventually acquiesced. He established a wartime system in Hungary, but resigned after disagreements with the new Emperor Charles I over suffrage (17). After Hungary's defeat in World War I, he was assassinated during the revolution. Tisa |
