Kasukabe [city] - Kasukabe

Japanese: 春日部[市] - かすかべ
Kasukabe [city] - Kasukabe
A city in eastern Saitama prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. Until 1944, it was written as Kasukabe. It occupies alluvial plains such as the Shonai-Furukawa, Furutonegawa, and Motoarakawa rivers, and the Edogawa River, which forms the border with Chiba prefecture, flows south to the eastern end of the city, forming the prefecture's grain-producing region. The city center developed as a post town on the Nikko Kaido road in the early modern period, and is now a transportation hub where the Tobu Railway's Isesaki Line and Noda Line intersect. In the 1960s, industrial and residential complexes were developed, and the Hibiya subway line was extended to Kita-Kasukabe, and urbanization progressed rapidly. Traditional industries include paulownia crafts such as chests, geta, and hagoita, and straw hats. Food and electrical equipment industries are also conducted, but there are many small factories. The wisteria tree in the Kojima residence of Ushijima is several hundred years old (special natural monument). Showa Town, Kitakatsushika District, was incorporated in October 2005. 66.00km2 . 237,171 people (2010).
