...The closely related O. p . japonica (illustration) is found under seaweed washed up on the beach, as well as under fallen leaves inland. O. ochotensis lives on the coasts of Hokkaido and in brackish waters, while Talorchestia brito lives in holes dug in the sand near the intertidal zones of Hokkaido and Honshu. Species of the Hyalella genus are known to live in mountain streams and still waters at altitudes of up to 4,000 meters in South America.
