Kajoli
1859‐1930
American historian of mathematics. Born in Switzerland, he moved to the United States with his brother at the age of 16 and studied mathematics at the University of Wisconsin and Johns Hopkins University. He served as professor of physics at Colorado College from 1889 and mathematics from 1898, and in 1918 was invited to become professor of the history of mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley. Cajoli's name is well known today because of his many writings as a historian of mathematics. In particular, his History of Mathematics (1894) and History of Elementary Mathematics (1896) were widely read.

アメリカの数学史家。スイスに生まれ,16歳で兄とともに渡米,ウィスコンシン大学,ジョンズ・ホプキンズ大学で数学を学んだ。1889年からコロラド・カレッジの物理学教授,98年からは数学教授を歴任,1918年にはカリフォルニア大学バークリー校の数学史教授に招かれた。今日カジョリの名が著名なのは数学史家として多くの著述を行ったからである。とくに《数学史》(1894),《初等数学史》(1896)は広範に読まれた。
