Kusuha Pass - Kusuha Pass

Japanese:
Kusuha Pass - Kusuha Pass
In the Middle Ages, this checkpoint was located on the banks of the Yodo River in Kuzuha (formerly written as Kuzuha or Kuzuha; currently Hirakata City, Osaka Prefecture) in Katano County, Kawachi Province. It is unclear when the checkpoint was established, but according to the Taiheiki, during the rule of Emperor Godaigo, new checkpoints were closed due to "the trouble of merchant traffic and the inconvenience of transporting taxes," but Otsu and Kuzuha were excluded, indicating the long history of the checkpoint. In 1340 (Kokoku 1, Ryakuo 3) by imperial decree, Kusunoki Barrier was used as a fee collection point for the construction of Kasuga Shrine, and in 1348 (Shohei 3, Sadawa 4), an imperial decree was issued to give the barricade as a reward to a monk named Enjo Ajari, who had presented a sacred sword from Ise Province. However, it was immediately returned, with the justification that "Kuzunoha Barrier has been the territory of the Nara regent for many years, so to release him without permission would lead to complaints from the monks."
