Atmospheric absorption

Absorption refers to the absorption of solar radiation as it passes through the atmosphere. The sun can be considered a black body with a surface temperature of about 6000 K. If this is the case, then according to Planck's radiation law for black body radiation, the wavelength of solar radiation should range from 0.15 μm to 4 μm, with about half of the total energy falling within the visible light range of 0.38 μm to 0.77 μm, and the wavelength of the maximum energy being 0.5 μm in blue-green. However, in the solar spectrum observed on the Earth's surface, the wavelength of the maximum energy is in the yellow range at about 0.6 μm.

太陽放射などが大気中を通過するときに受ける吸収をいう。太陽は，その表面の温度が約6000Kの黒体とみなしてもよいと考えられているが，そうだとすると黒体放射に関するプランクの放射則によって，太陽放射の波長は0.15μmから4μmにわたり，全エネルギーの約半分は0.38μmから0.77μmの可視光線の範囲に含まれ，エネルギー極大の波長は0.5μmの青緑色のはずである。ところが地球表面で観測される太陽スペクトルでは，エネルギー極大の波長は約0.6μmの黄色の部分にある。
