The predecessor of the Folk Culture Research Institute. Until 1933 (Showa 8), it was stored in the attic of the garage of Shibusawa Keizo's house in Mita Tsunamachi, Tokyo (now Mita 2-chome, Minato Ward), and contained a collection of folk toys. In the same year, an independent research lab was established and the name was officially adopted. Attic means attic. Members of the research lab included Hayakawa Kotaro, Takahashi Buntaro (1903-1948), Miyamoto Keitaro (1911-1979), and others, and they set the subject of their research as "folk tools" and worked to collect them. The first manager was Murakami Kiyofumi (date of birth and death unknown), and later Isogai Isamu (1905-1978). They published records of folk tools and folk customs, and the number of publications of the Attic Museum Bulletin and Notes reached several dozens. The person responsible for publishing it was Takagi Kazuo (1903-1979). In 1942 it was renamed the Institute for Japanese Folk Culture, and in 1950 (Showa 25) it became a foundation. In 1981 it became the Kanagawa University Institute for Japanese Folk Culture. [Toru Ogawa] [Reference] |Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
