Spohr

Japanese: シュポーア
Spohr
German composer, violinist, and conductor. Born in Braunschweig in northern Germany. He was active as a violinist and conductor throughout Europe, and was regarded as the best violinist in Germany. He was one of the first to use a baton, and while he gained fame as a conductor, he also established his position as a composer with his oratorios and the opera Faust (premiered in 1816). In 1822, he became the music director of the Elector's court in Kassel, and later the general music director, where he died. He was famous for his elegant musical style, modeled on Mozart and incorporating bold chromatic techniques, and left behind many instrumental works, including symphonies, concertos, and string quartets. One of his representative works, Violin Concerto No. 8, in the form of a dramatic chant (1816), is known as a pioneer of the single-movement concerto. He also left behind works in unusual forms, such as a double quartet for two string quartets.
