Admiral of the Navy - Kaigun Sosai

This was the title of the Edo Shogunate's position that oversaw naval affairs during the late Edo period. It was established in 1866 (Keio 2). During the Bunkyu era (1861-64), his name appeared at the top of the military reform plan drawn up by the Shogunate Military System Office, but it was realized in the Shogunate government reforms of Hitotsubashi Yoshinobu (the 15th Shogun, Tokugawa Yoshinobu). In December 1866, Inaba Masami (Lord of Tateyama Domain) was appointed as a senior councilor, and in January 1868, Yatabori Ko (Province of Sanuki), who was a Bugyo-nami (Military Commissioner), was appointed as the position, and the position was abolished with his resignation in leap April. By the way, in January 683, Enomoto Takeaki was promoted from his position as a naval captain to vice admiral of the navy, and took control of the real power in the shogunate navy.

幕末期、海軍の事務を統轄した江戸幕府の職名。1866年（慶応2）に設置。文久(ぶんきゅう)年間（1861～64）、幕府軍制掛の立案した軍改革案には最上位にその名がみえるが、一橋慶喜(ひとつばしよしのぶ)（第15代将軍徳川慶喜）の幕政改革で実現。66年12月に、老中格より稲葉正巳(まさみ)（館山(たてやま)藩主）が兼任、68年1月よりは軍艦奉行並(ぶぎょうなみ)矢田堀鴻(やたぼりこう)（讃岐守(さぬきのかみ)）が任じられ、閏(うるう)4月の辞任とともに廃止された。ちなみに、68年1月より榎本武揚(えのもとたけあき)が軍艦頭並から海軍副総裁となり、幕府海軍の実権を掌握した。
