A manufacturer of ceramic building materials, mainly slate. Formerly affiliated with Chichibu Onoda. Founded in 1924 as Asahi Slate (a manufacturer of non-combustible building materials). Changed to current name in 1987. In addition to its main product slate, the company also develops, designs and installs various building materials such as boards for residential interiors, and insulation and fireproof coatings. Sales breakdown: construction-related 53%, energy and plant-related 44%, and others 3%. Annual sales 63.348 billion yen (consolidated, of which 4% is exports), capital 2.34 billion yen, number of employees 470 (1999).
