Asakura Chronicles - Asakura Shimatsuki

This is a war chronicle that records the rise and fall of the Asakura clan, a feudal lord in Echizen (Fukui Prefecture) during the Sengoku period. It mainly consists of two parts: "Kaetsu Tojoki," which records the conflict between the Asakura clan and the Ikko Ikki of the neighboring Kaga province, and "Esshu Gunki," which records Oda Nobunaga's conquest of the Asakura clan. It is thought to have been written by a former retainer of the Asakura clan shortly after their downfall. The account is relatively accurate, except for some alterations to embellish the Asakura clan during their period of rise. There are many copies, but published versions include "Nihon Shiso Taikei 17: Rennyo Ikko Ikki" (Iwanami Shoten) and "Shiseki Shuran 6."
