...From Gyeongseong Station (now Seoul Station) outside Namdaemun, railways extended to the northern region, Yeongnam (Gyeongsang Province), Honam (Jeolla Province), and Incheon, the outer port of Gyeongseong, and Cheongnyangni Station outside Dongdaemun became the starting point for travel to Yeongdong (Gangwon Province), Taebaek, and Wonsan. In the latter half of the colonial period, industry also developed, with textile, food, glass, and some machine industries centered around Yeongdeungpo on the opposite bank of the Han River. However, these industries were not necessarily driven by the needs of the Korean people, but rather by the need to build a logistics base to support Japan's invasion of mainland China. In terms of culture, as part of the assimilation policy, an important aspect of Japan's rule over Korea, education was emphasized, and various technical schools were established, including Keijo Imperial University (1924), which was modeled after the University of Tokyo and even had a similar atmosphere to the layout of its buildings. ...
