Ashigara Mountains - Ashigarasanchi

Japanese: 足柄山地 - あしがらさんち

A mountain range on the border between Kanagawa and Shizuoka prefectures. It stretches from Mt. Kintoki (1,212m) at the northern end of the outer rim of Mt. Hakone to the valley of the Sakawa River in the north. The highest peak is Mt. Kintoki, and other peaks include Mt. Yagura (870m). It is known for the legend that it was the birthplace of Kintoki Sakata. In the center is Ashigara Pass, and there is a hiking trail to Mt. Kintoki. In the old days, the area around the pass was called Ashigarayama.

神奈川県と静岡県の境にある山地。箱根山の外輪山北端にある金時山 (1212m) から北方に酒匂 (さかわ) 川の谷まで続く。最高峰は金時山で，ほかに矢倉岳 (870m) などがある。坂田公時が生れ育った地との伝説で知られる。中央に足柄峠があり，金時山までハイキングコースがある。古くは峠付近を足柄山と呼んだ。
