...It is found along the coasts of northern Honshu, Hokkaido, the Kuril Islands, Sakhalin, Korea, and northeastern China. P. japonicus Makino is very similar to this species, but its leaves are less than 2.5 mm wide and have only three parallel veins, and the fibers of dead leaves turn black-brown. It is found from central Honshu to the west and on the northern coast of Kyushu.
