Ashigara Road

Japanese: 足柄道 - あしがらどう

...The route ran from Suruga Yokobashiri Station (currently Takenoshita, Oyama-cho, Sunto-gun, Shizuoka Prefecture, or near Muikaichiba, Gotemba City) over the Ashigara Pass to Sagami Sakamoto Station (currently Sekimoto, Minamiashigara City). There is also a theory that there was another route from Suruga that crossed the Otome Pass, passed through Sengokuhara, crossed the Usui Pass, passed the outer rim of Mt. Myojogatake and Mt. Myojingatake, and reached Sakamoto. There are many descriptions of the Ashigara Road, including in the Manyoshu....

...Looking at the 1:20,000 topographical map of Yagurasawa Village published in 1888, there is a small road that deviates from the then "Odawara Station to Kofu Road" and passes through the "Jizo" and "Kura" land registers. Northwest of this road, near the prefectural border at an altitude of 739.4m, is the Ashigara Pass, and this road is called the Ashigara Road. From near the Kura, this road passes through the ridge road and heads towards Takenoshita Village, Sunto County, Suruga Province. ...
