...In 1868 (Meiji 1), the Kanagawa Magistrate's Office was replaced by the Kanagawa Court, which renamed the prefectures Kanagawa and Kanagawa Prefectures. Tenryo and other areas became part of Nirayama Prefecture, and the following year Kanazawa Domain was renamed Mutsuura Domain. In 1871, the feudal domains were abolished and prefectures were established, and Sagami Province and Izu Province were integrated into Ashigara Prefecture, and the rest were integrated into Kanagawa Prefecture. ...In 1868 (Meiji 1), the Tokugawa family was transferred to the Fuchu Domain (renamed Shizuoka Domain the following year), which consisted of the whole of Suruga, most of Totomi (part of which was established as the Horie Domain in the same year), and eastern Mikawa. As a result, the Suruga domains of Numazu, Ojima, and Tanaka, and the Totomi domains of Sagara, Kakegawa, Yokosuka, and Hamamatsu were transferred to Awa and Kazusa. In 1871, the domains were abolished and replaced by prefectures, and Nirayama Prefecture (established in 1868), which had jurisdiction over Izu, was incorporated into Ashigara Prefecture in Sagami, Shizuoka Prefecture and Horie Prefecture were merged and separated to become Shizuoka Prefecture (Suruga) and Hamamatsu Prefecture (Totomi), and eastern Mikawa was incorporated into Nukata Prefecture. In 1876, when Ashigara Prefecture was abolished, Shizuoka Prefecture annexed Izu, and then Hamamatsu Prefecture, which continues to this day.
