Nyayavarttika (English spelling)

…Years of birth and death unknown. Wrote Nyāya‐vārttika to defend the orthodox Brahmanical theory of proof since the Nyāya‐sūtra, which had been seriously damaged by the Buddhist school of logic. He attempted to re-establish the five-part method by introducing the six types of contact theory derived from the Vaisheshika school of thought into direct knowledge and defining reasoning as a means to reflection on evidential causes.
