Born: November 30, 1854, Kostroma [Died] December 19, 1925. British jurist and medieval historian born in Paris, Russia. Studied at Moscow University, and after teaching there became a professor at the same university. During his professorship he attempted to reform education methods, established university autonomy, and worked hard to expand public primary schools, but was not accepted by the authorities, so he moved to England in 1902. Since 1903 he has been professor of legal philosophy at Oxford University. He inherited the position of the British historical school of law. His main work is Villainage in England (1892).
