Tozama Domain in Bitchu Province (Okayama Prefecture). The domain was headed by the Maita clan. The first lord, Hirosada, served Toyotomi Hideyoshi in his native Owari and was granted 10,000 koku of rice. However, during the Battle of Sekigahara, he sided with Ishida Mitsunari and was defeated, leading to confinement to Mount Koya. In 1603 (Keicho 8), with the help of Asano Yoshinaga, he served Tokugawa Ieyasu and was granted 10,016 koku of rice in seven districts, including Bitchu, Kawachi, Yamashiro, and Settsu. During the second lord Sadamasa's time, 3,000 koku of rice was given to his younger brother, and during the third lord Sadayuki's time, 1,500 koku of rice was given to his younger brother, but this was increased to make him a Hatamoto with a stipend of over 7,700 koku. In 1863 (Bunkyu 3), during the reign of the 12th lord, Hirotaka, the clan was restored to daimyo status on the condition that they pay military service equivalent to a stipend of 10,000 koku, and a jin'ya was established in Asao, Bitchu (Soja City), leading up to the Meiji Restoration.
