MacDonald, DB (English)

...In the early 18th century, the French orientalist A. Galland included it in his The Thousand and One Nights, and it became known throughout the world, but no Arabic original was ever found, either in the original copy of The Thousand and One Nights or as an independent manuscript. In 1908, Duncan B. MacDonald confirmed its existence in the catalogue of manuscripts in the Bodley Library at Oxford University, and in 1910 published the original text in the journal of the Royal Asiatic Society. However, there is a difference in style between the two, so it is unclear whether it is the same as the one Galland used.
