Makrān (English spelling)

Japanese: マクラーン（英語表記）Makrān

The name of a mountainous region along the Arabian coast that straddles Pakistan and Iran. The Iranian side is called Mekrān. It consists of several Tertiary folded mountain ranges running parallel from east to west, narrow river valley plains between them, and small coastal plains. The coastal Pasni has a desert climate with an annual rainfall of only 127 mm. Agriculture relies on irrigation through underground water channels (qanat) and pumped canal irrigation of puddles in wadis created by flooding during winter rains, and produces dates, wheat, and barley. The dried fruit of dates in particular is of high quality and is famous throughout Western Asia.
