Saumur - Saumur (English spelling)

A city in the Maine-et-Loire department in mid-western France. Population 29,857 (1999). It is located along the Loire and Thoué rivers. The city's population size increased through merging with surrounding municipalities. The population is also increasing due to industrialization, such as agricultural food processing, aluminum products, and plywood processing, as well as the traditional commerce and tourism industries. Historical buildings such as a castle from the 14th to 16th centuries and a Romanesque church remain.

フランス中西部、メーヌ・エ・ロアール県にある都市。人口2万9857（1999）。ロアール川とトゥウェ川に沿う。周辺の自治体と合併して都市の人口規模を大きくした。また、農産物を加工した食品、アルミニウム製品、合板加工業などの工業化に加えて、従来の商業、観光業が活発になることによっても人口が増加しつつある。14～16世紀の城やロマネスク式教会など歴史的な建造物が残る。
