Inugami no Mitasuki - Inugami no Mitasuki

Date of birth and death unknown. A government official in the Asuka period during the reign of Empress Suiko and Emperor Jomei. His rank was Daijin. Also written as Mita Toshiki. In June 614 (22nd year of the reign of Empress Suiko), he became the fifth Japanese envoy to Sui together with a certain Yatabe. The following year, he returned to Japan accompanied by an envoy from Baekje. In August 630 (2nd year of the reign of Emperor Jomei), he became the first Japanese envoy to Tang China together with Yakushi Enichi. In August 632, he returned to Japan via Silla together with the Tang envoys Gao Pyojin and Silla envoys. He also returned to Japan with the scholars and monks Ryoun, Min, and Sugurinotorikai, who had studied in Tang China from the Sui period. The Inugami clan is presumed to have been a powerful clan in Inugami County, Omi Province (Shiga Prefecture). It is also worth noting that there were many other powerful clans in Omi who were active in diplomacy and military affairs in the 6th and 7th centuries, including Omi Kenu, a general in the Keitai era who was sent to southern Korea, Ono no Imoko, an envoy to the Sui Dynasty during the reign of Empress Suiko, and the scholarly monk Shiga Ayahito Eon, who accompanied him.

生没年不詳。飛鳥(あすか)時代、推古(すいこ)・舒明(じょめい)朝の官僚。冠位は大仁(だいじん)。三田耜とも記す。614年（推古天皇22）6月、矢田部某とともに第五次遣隋使(けんずいし)となる。翌年百済(くだら)使を伴い帰国。630年（舒明天皇2）8月、薬師恵日(くすしえにち)とともに第一次遣唐使となる。632年8月、唐の送使高表仁(こうひょうじん)、新羅(しらぎ)の送使とともに新羅経由で帰国。隋代から留学して唐にいた学問僧霊雲(りょううん)・旻(みん)、勝鳥養(すぐりのとりかい)らもともに帰国した。なお、犬上君氏は近江(おうみ)国（滋賀県）犬上郡の豪族と推定されるが、このほか、継体(けいたい)朝の将軍で朝鮮南部へ派遣された近江毛野(おうみのけぬ)、推古朝の遣隋使小野妹子(おののいもこ)、彼に随行した学問僧志賀漢人慧隠(あやひとえおん)など、6、7世紀近江の豪族の出で外交や軍事に活躍した者の多いことが注目される。
