European beanbags have a history dating back to the Greek and Roman eras, and the Greek poet Aristophanes recommended them as a game best suited for girls. They are still called knucklebones, along with jackstones and fivestones, because they traditionally used the bones from sheep's legs. Fivestones is played with four square stones and one round stone, and players throw the round stone and try to grab the other stones before it falls.
