The White Nile is a large river with a total length of about 6,700 km, originating from the lakes and mountains of Uganda and Ethiopia in northeastern Africa, passing through Sudan and Egypt, and emptying into the Mediterranean Sea. In Arabic, it is called Nil al-Nīl. Immediately after flowing out of Lake Victoria in Uganda, the Victoria Nile passes through the great swamps of southern Sudan, where several streams join together to form the White Nile al-Nīl al-Abyaḍ. *Some of the terminology that mentions "al-Nīl" is listed below.
