A representative Japanese journal for philosophical research. Monthly. First published in 1887, it was renamed in 1992. It was based on the Tetsugakukai (Philosophical Society) which was founded in 1884 by Inoue Tetsujiro, Miyake Setsurei, Nishi Amane and others, and covered a wide range of subjects including not only philosophy but also history and literature. It gradually became a philosophical journal based in the University of Tokyo's Department of Philosophy. Its publisher has undergone many changes from Tetsugaku Zasshisha to Yuhikaku, where it is currently located. [Yamamoto Taketoshi] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
