Seryl alcohol

Chemical formula: CH 3 (CH 2 ) 25 OH. Also known as 1-hexacosanol and hexacosyl alcohol. A naturally occurring linear monohydric saturated alcohol, it exists in carnauba wax, beeswax, privet wax, and wool wax as an ester with fatty acids. A colorless, odorless crystalline solid. Melting point: 79.5-79.8°C. Soluble in ethyl alcohol and ether, insoluble in water. It can be obtained by reducing cerotic acid with metallic sodium and ethyl alcohol. 化学式CH3(CH2)25OH。1‐ヘキサコサノール，ヘキサコシルアルコールともいう。天然に存在する直鎖一価飽和アルコールで，カルナウバ蠟，蜜蠟，イボタ蠟，羊毛蠟の中に脂肪酸とエステルをつくって存在する。無色無臭の結晶性固体。融点79.5～79.8℃。エチルアルコール，エーテルに可溶，水に不溶。セロチン酸を金属ナトリウムとエチルアルコールで還元すると得られる。【内田 安三】
