Chemical formula: CH 3 (CH 2 ) 25 OH. Also known as 1-hexacosanol and hexacosyl alcohol. A naturally occurring linear monohydric saturated alcohol, it exists in carnauba wax, beeswax, privet wax, and wool wax as an ester with fatty acids. A colorless, odorless crystalline solid. Melting point: 79.5-79.8°C. Soluble in ethyl alcohol and ether, insoluble in water. It can be obtained by reducing cerotic acid with metallic sodium and ethyl alcohol.
